EMPLOYMENT INITIATIVES 

Employment Initiatives is a Disability Employment Service (DES) and is an employment agency which specialises in assisting people who have disabilities/barriers to gain open employment.

The Disability Services Act (2006) provides the legislative framework for the delivery of the DES Programme.  The objectives of the DES Programme are to provide high quality, specialist employment services that:

·       Enables job seekers with a disability to achieve sustainable employment to their maximum capacity

·       Promotes the capacity of people with a disability leading to improved employment opportunities

·       Encourages innovation and continuous improvement in the provision of employment services

·       Supports participation in approved education courses  

Eligibility A client may be referred to the DES if they:

·       Have a permanent (or likely to be permanent) disability

·       Have a reduced capacity for communication, learning or mobility

·       Require support for more than six months after placement in employment

·       Require specialist assistance to build capacity in order to meet participation requirements

·       Have an assessed future work capacity of eight or more hours per week

·       Require long-term support in the workplace and/or are unable to work at full wages

·       Providing travel training if needed

·       Assessing whether you would need any workplace modification or special equipment to do your job
